My son has attended several Master Class programs, locally when available, and at Interlochen. He has studied with instructors like Strommen, Marco and Douvas. The only Master Class I attended with him, was with John Mack. There was not a significant oboist within an hundred miles that didn't attend. The American Master; and the room vibrated with anticipation, attempting to apprehend every nuance, any disturbance in the air, hanging on every note and every word. Sure, there were some technical adjustments that were mandated, but conversation was simple, stories of the Master as he approached the body of work, and his interactions with Tabeteau and Szell. To achieve excellence, it is necessary to do. Even auditing this event, I was inspired, and I suppose, wished to be young again. .
