I've always wondered why no one whacked Steely Dan for ripping off the opening of Horace Silver's classic for "RIkkie Don't Lose That Number".
I believe that while the beginning of the song sounds like another the song in its entirety is much different. The same holds true for the song that the Red Hot Chili Peppers did I believe called Airplane. The chord progression in the beginning was reminescent of a song from the 60s, but the song in its entirety did not include any words or snippets from that song so there was no issue. I believe that music or a chord progression cause for a law suit.
