Did he say schweinhund? I distinctly heard schweinhund. Probably a slag at Porter Cable or Makita or some such.

Damn Krauts.....

Hope Santa brings it to you...if you have asked her for it!

But that poor guy, doesn't he have a workshop? Can you imagine having to set up your tools and put them all away again every time you made or fixed something??? It would be like my vacuum downstairs: seldom visited, out of sight, out of mind...

I am no handyperson, but it seemed to me that, like so much well made German stuff, it assumes more attention to doing things exactly right than a lot of American consumer products (which tend by contrast to allow for the person being distracted, careless, multi-tasking).

Of course I am probably just saying this because of all the million ways my basically functional VW Jetta TDI is inconvenient because one can't easily do several things at once in it (like change the radio, plug in the ipod, adjust the GPS, or reach conveniently for the coffee) while driving. As the salesman ruefully remarked "In Germany, they don't drink coffee while driving....and they check the route out BEFORE they start driving, etc."

Guess it's a good thing I don't work with power tools--when I am sloppy with a camera, taking a picture one handed while drinking coffee and being jerked by the undisciplined pooch, only the camera snobs wince, nobody gets hurt!

I don't know which my German soul loved more -- the engineering of the thing, or the squeaky-clean shop floor. Not a speck of dust, and everything in its place. Be still my heart!
