July Fourth Oh You Betcha

You want America? Do you even speak American? Would you know America if you saw it? Has the thing itself become so obscure and argued over that it's lost its meaning? Can I possibly write another sentence with a question mark at the end of it and get away with it?

This is America:

Declaration of Independence. Panama Canal. Hoover Dam. Empire State Building. Cure polio. Put Tojo and Hitler in the cold cold ground-simultaneously. Man on the moon. Wear out the Soviet Union. Broadway. Wall Street. Main Street. Hollywood and Vine. Four young ladies playing The Stars and Stripes Forever, all on trombone.

You name it, we got it. In spades.

HOLY CRAP! That girl on the right was playing the PICCOLO part on a trombone and nailing it! Who are they? That was AWESOME.

My Dad used to put in funny words for that Sousa song.

Be kind to your web-footed friends.
For a duck may be somebody's mother.

blah blah

Well you may think that this is the end.

Well it is.

Ruth Anne! Your dad and me, with the lyrics. My little ones and I marched aroung the house yesterday, singing about web footed friends too.

There's a slight problem with post though- I've been digging around. Those lovely young girls performed that amazing feat at the University of North Texas, at the ITF convention. Apparently there's a trombone festival, and an international trombone players' association, the ITA.

Those girls are from England.

There's got to be a way for me to weave the fact that we take "your poor, your hungry, your huddled masses yearning to play Sousa" into this.
